The movie Cinderella Man takes place in America in the early 1930s in the middle of The Great Depression, which originated in USA when the stock marked crashed.
It tells the story of the Irish-American boxer, James J Braddock (played by Russell Crowe), who is forced to give up boxing after breaking his hand in the ring. Renée Zellweger plays Mae Braddock, the wife that is the source behind Jim Braddocks strength and always fearing for his life.
Like many other Americans, Braddock hits the bottom. After breaking his hand, his career seems to be finished, he is unable to pay the bills and in order to support his family, he takes a variety of lousy jobs.
Nevertheless, Jim Braddock dreams of returning to the boxing and when another boxer cancels in last minute, Braddock gets a second chance. The fight is against the number two contender in the world and Braddock is just seen as a punching bag by the promoters of the fight.
But Braddock stuns the boxing experts and fans when he knocks out his opponent in the third round. Fighting with permanent injuries to his hands, Braddock continues to win and soon he comes to represent the hopes of others Americans that are coping with bad economy and becomes a folk hero.
